What is eczema?
Eczema, also called atopic dermatitis, is a condition where the skin
becomes hot, itchy, dry and flaky and occurs in both adults and babies.
There is no known cause for eczema but there is a genetic component to the condition. It often runs in families and if a parent suffers from eczema, it is likely the child will also suffer from the condition.
Eczema sufferers are also more prone to allergies or asthma.
Eczema is a common skin complaint that can affect up to 20% of children. It can be brought on or sometimes made worse by everyday products such as shampoo, soap, washing powder.
There are many types of eczema but infantile Seborrhoeic Eczema known as Cradle Cap is one that affects specifically babies and young children. While Cradle Cap is unsightly, it causes no discomfort and usually clears up in several months.
